1. Requirements for BPOM Certification

To obtain a BPOM certificate, small food producers must meet the following requirements:

Legal Entity Registration: The producer must be a registered legal entity in Indonesia. This applies to both domestic and foreign manufacturers.
Compliance with Food Safety Standards: Products must comply with Indonesian food safety regulations, including ingredient safety, labeling, and advertising standards.
Product Type: The type of food product being registered (e.g., processed food, beverages) will determine the specific requirements and procedures.

The following documents are typically required for the BPOM certification application:

Application Form: Completed BPOM registration form specific to food products.
Business License: A copy of the business license (SIUP) or equivalent.
Product Formulation: Detailed formulation of the product, including all ingredients.
Labeling Information: Samples of product labels that comply with BPOM regulations.
Quality Control Documents: Documentation of quality control measures and safety assessments.
Certificate of Analysis: Lab test results confirming the safety and quality of the product.
Manufacturing Facility License: Proof of compliance with local health and safety regulations for the production facility.
Additional Documents: Any other documents as required by BPOM based on the product type.

The submission process for BPOM certification involves the following steps:

Complete the BPOM Registration Form:
- Access the BPOM registration form through the official BPOM website or the e-BPOM portal.
- For food products, use the specific link for food registration: BPOM Food Registration.
Prepare Required Documents:
- Gather all necessary documents as listed above. Ensure that all documents are complete and comply with BPOM requirements.
Submit Documents:
- Submit the completed application form and all required documents to the BPOM office. This can be done in person or through the e-BPOM online system.
- For food products, documents should be submitted to the BPOM officer responsible for food product registration.
Pay Registration Fees:
- Pay any applicable registration fees as determined by BPOM. Payment details will be provided during the application process.
Await Evaluation:
- BPOM will evaluate the submitted documents and may request additional information or clarification if needed.
Receive BPOM Certificate:
- Once approved, the BPOM certificate will be issued, confirming that the product is registered and compliant with Indonesian regulations.

Validity and Renewal: The BPOM certificate is valid for five years and can be renewed. Renewal must be done within 90 days before the expiration date.
Foreign Manufacturers: Foreign manufacturers must have a registered Indonesian entity to apply for BPOM certification.
Product Codes: BPOM uses specific codes to categorize products:
- ML (Makanan Luar): For imported processed food and beverages.
- MD (Makanan Produksi Dalam Negeri): For domestically produced food and beverages.
Exceptions: Certain low-risk food products may have simplified registration processes. It is advisable to consult BPOM for specific cases.
